I was driving in Tucson and on the radio I heard the announcer talking about the weekend. she said "even God rested so everyone enjoy the weekend."
I got to chewing on this statement.
I believe that the word "rest" in Genesis and in places throughout the Bible can be translated into "finished". I don't believe that God needed or needs to rest the way we are thinking about it.
when I got back to my mom's home I talked to her about it and we both got really excited. I had to explain it like "a jury resting" it means they are done. we looked up a few more scriptures in the New Testament and found that it really works. like "come to me all who are weary... and I will give you rest" it could be "come to me and I will give you the finished work of the cross".
she brought up the subject of the sabbath. How would that fit. well, I believe that the sabbath was part of the law that God gave to Moses not part of creation.
I found it to be exciting that God would reveal this to me. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Let me know what you think.

This makes for a great "Biblical Words" study I hope you do not mind me moving it to the "What is in a Word" category.

Kim what insights were you able to glean from the definitions of the words used in these verses? How does it effect your revelation?

I believe that the definitions are what exactly what I was saying. On the cross he chould have said "He rested" because it was finished, completed. "come unto me and I will give you rest" could be used in the same way. Rest in the completed work of Christ. Thank you, so much, for finding this for me. I have searched for the meanings and had a terrible time. I spent hours last night and could not find what I was looking for. I guess I need to figure out how to use the study guides better.

Short Version: When a person studies Scripture, they have to realize there is often a literal and figurative meaning; which is how we can make the application to our lives. The literal deals with life, history, and action and the figurative deals with the Spiritual realm, the inner spirit and soul. Scripture must be read both ways.
Whereas in this situation you are making the figurative, Spiritual connection, you cannot do so to the exclusion of the literal, tangible active, connection. There are many forms of rest. The definitions provided support that belief, which is another aspect of Scripture, the fact that a passage can have revelation, upon revelation of meaning because it the Word, which is alive and revealed according to the readers needs at the time of reading. There was a great deal explained here in a couple of sentences, therefore, please ask any questions which come to mind.
Your thoughts are not in dispute but to discount the Sabbath truth as part of the equation both for God and for us is not being true or faithful to the Scripture. In Genesis 2:3 God took the day in which He rested [Genesis 2:2], then blessed and sanctifying it because He “rested from all His work” on that day. The creation is never greater than the Creator. We must always remember the God of creation is the incarnated God who became human. God is very aware and has experience, both as God Almighty and as man.
Side Note: It has been my experience from all I have read and everyone I have talked with that those with the greatest insights into Scripture where those individuals who did not use study guides to determine their beliefs.
A Hebrew and Greek Dictionary, as any dictionary is, can be a wonder and useful tool to have. If that cannot be found a Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary is a good substitute because at that point he still listed the Biblical Hebrew and Greek Definitions as his first definition for each word.
